Benefits of Studying Music
There are numerous benefits to learning an instrument beyond impressing your friends and family. Learning an instrument can improve your quality of life, and give you a new and healthy way to relieve your stress. Having a creative outlet to express yourself with is invaluable, and will enrich your life in ways you never thought possible. Regardless of your age, music has also been studied to make the brain faster and sharper.
Children who study music have shown to have an added defense against memory loss as they age, and stay sharper throughout the later stages of life. Children who take music lessons are even found to have an increase in IQ. It's never too late to enjoy the benefits of learning an instrument, though -these benefits have been observed in people who picked up an instrument as late as age 65. People who study music in the later stages of life have also been found to have lower blood-pressure and reduced stress, as well as a reduction in depression and anxiety.
